Planned project for the week of 5/13 and discussed plans for the rest of the school year. We will create a common final assessment that reviews content and skills from the school year.

Next week we will read Act IV of Romeo and Juliet. Mrs. Lawler will cover irony on Monday since they didn't get that lesson when she went on maternity leave.

We discussed the Romeo and Juliet project and what the rest of the school year will look like. Students will get a review packet the last week of school and have a multiple choice final in order to review terms and concepts covered this school year.

-89 students showed growth this school year
-5 more students are on grade level than at the beginning of the year
-17 students stayed the same
-80 students decreased
-When examining scores we believe students whose scores decreased did so due to behavior and lack of effort
-Some students decreased who were on grade level and we feel that their scores should reflect no change rather than a decrease
-The test grade as motivation definitely helped several students become more focused
-We believe a lot of the scores represent effort and attention rather than true ability.
-We are seeing a lot of apathy in the classroom and that is reflected in the MAP scores

Minutes 3/29

Mr. Kerr shared a question type activity that he did with his students to prepare for the ACT in our department meeting. We adapted that lesson to help prepare students for the third round of MAP testing. We are going to use Mr. Bishop's idea to count the MAP test as a mastery grade.

Followed up on the writing process and how the students are doing with the essay. 

We planned for next and we hope to finish The Odyssey and focus attention on irony.  The students will show their understanding of irony through a written assignment.

The Freshman civics classes are working on a unit on women's rights. To do a cross-curricular connection, we selected a short story and article of the week for next week that both deal with feminism.

PLC minutes 12/13

MAP scores are entered into data sheet, we have seen growth! We will discuss a plan of how to move forward when we return from winter break.

We discussed how to check rosters to see who has something in their backpack. Blue team is almost at 100%. Gold team will check again after Slinde finalizes the anti-smoking project, and Rahmlow has students complete their egg drop projects.

Next week's plans:
-Monday: Students will read, annotate, and summarize the article the final is on
-Tuesday: Multiple choice portion of the test and pre-writing for the essay portion
-Wednesday/Thursday: Essay portion of final
-Friday: Final makeups, makeup assignments, logic puzzle enrichment activity

Discussed MAP testing Annie has 12 kids that did not finish Emerald has 15. All due to absences or suspensions.
We will enter MAP scores into the data sheet by next week's PLC/

Plans for next week:

• Have students analyze a painting and then write a poem inspired by the painting and analysis
• Blue team: Students will complete a critical reading of a passage from The Hate U Give to help prepare for the Final
• Gold team: Students will discuss the audience and purpose and write a rough draft of a persuasive letter to convince someone in their life to stop smoking
• Review of skills from the semester to prepare for the final

PLC minutes 11/29

This week we are doing round 2 of MAP testing. We will try to finish next week.
Next week we will be finishing the argument speech project.
The final assessment will be the DCA #1 informational.
Weds-Friday of next week we will focus on comparing texts to help prepare students for the DCA.
The week of the 10th gold team will be working on a team-wide project dealing with tobacco.

Planned for 11/19-11/20 and 11/26-11/30

Students will be completing drafts of their argument speeches and planning and practicing delivering them. 

Reading MAP testing will take place 11/28 and 11/29

PLC 11/9

Megan and Annie discussed going to a conference in March to help support interventions for English. 

Planned for the week of 11/12. Students will conduct research to support their claim and compose argument speeches. They will edit and revise their speeches and prepare to present their argument to the class. 

We discussed strategies to encourage students to give the speech such as having students give the speeches after school or during lunch. 

Emerald will revise rubrics for scoring the writing and delivery of the speeches by Wednesday 11/14. 

PLC 11/1

Planning co-teaching lesson with Mrs. Moore for November 12th/13th on how to research effectively

Next week students will develop claims, reasons, and counterclaims for their argument speeches. We will model as a class how to develop research questions to that they are able to use to guide their research on their topic.

Students will view and analyze good and bad speeches to determine what a good speech should look like. Students will attend Opioid awareness field trip on Tuesday. They will analyze a written speech on Wednesday/Thursday. On Friday they will brainstorm for topics on an argument speech of their choice.
